About the team

We have over 35 years experience in IP Protection and Investigations. Our directors are…

Paul Thomas (Managing Director)

Prior to joining IPF in 2008 Paul spent the previous 10 years with Microsoft Corporation as part of their Anti-Piracy and Internet Safety Investigations Team for EMEA. Recruited as a European Investigator Paul rose to Head of Anti-Piracy Investigations for the region. He was instrumental in evolving the investigative programme from v.1 to the current level of sophistication envied by competitors.

Notable achievements include leading investigations into the first and most important criminal convictions of counterfeiters in the UK for Microsoft (leading to lengthy prison sentences), helping launch the Worldwide Digital Integrity program, building out a Business Intelligence program and developing a Worldwide Test Purchase program.

Paul’s specialism has been in the field of developing a strategy using civil remedies to provide a return on investment for the client. This model has proven itself repeatedly generating millions of dollars for investment in a sustained AP Programme.

Paul has spent much of his time expanding IPF’s reach into India and had developed a strategic presence there. With resources covering the whole of the country, and including lawyers and investigators, Clients have benefitted from an effective investigative capability and been rewarded by impressive results.

Further focus has been applied to Eastern Europe which is an area that has proven problematic for many attempting to operate successfully. IPF have conducted several complex investigations in the region and delivered successful outcomes resolving client’s issues. The feedback from clients has been extremely positive.

Paul has also developed a lead identification, development and qualification process for an affiliated business programme in France. The compliance based process has delivered impressive revenues for the programme and its members.

Paul is a respected consultant and has been engaged to advise on strategy and develop AP plans. He has also been engaged to directly manage teams for clients expanding their expertise and resources.

Expanding into the field of cybercrime Paul has expertise in managing investigations into spam mail, phishing, typo squatting as well as other malicious threats including malware and spyware propagation.

He has been awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Investigative Practice by Teesside University and holds an Advanced Certificate of Best Practice in Investigation BTEC.
